Please join us for this fun event! We hold this event twice a year with Ignite Karate, and this is the first year we will be holding an adult division.
Date: Saturday, June 14th
12:00-1:00pm Central Time
In this non-competitive event, we spotlight students to perform One Step Sparring or Form.
Performances are a great way for students to build confidence and experience the power of how goal setting, practice and hard work can lead to growth and a sense of accomplishment. The event is free and all students are welcome; students will however need to order a trophy in advance.
Performance events are a wonderful way for students to improve upon and build confidence in their martial arts practice. By committing to the event ahead of time, and practicing outside of class, students set goals and work towards achieving them. Importantly, the emphasis on our events is not on "winning" or being better than our classmates. Because they are performance in nature, our events give students a safe space to rise to a challenge, and succeed by doing their individual best. This is essential for developing self-esteem and sense of pride in one's hobbies and interests.
Students can order their own award at the link below. In the Summer Tournament, we award small trophies, and in the Fall/Winter Tournament, we award medals. Our aim is to keep the award economical and accessible to all, so we provide the recommendation below for a trophy.
You may customize the color- there are quite a few choices, and also the figure (we suggest a karate or taekwondo figure, but there are various poses and some with long hair and some with short hair). There are 10", 11", and 12" trophies available- the price difference between them is a dollar or less; students should choose a size they would like.
There is also engraving available. Three lines are available and we suggest the following:
STUDENT NAME
IGNITE MARTIAL ARTS
JUNE 2025
We'd suggest ordering as soon as possible to ensure it is there by the day of the event. Students are of course welcome to substitute in something other than this trophy, or to forego an award. For students outside of the United States, please reach out! We have had students from Canada as well as in Europe order trophies so they may have some useful recommendations.
We will dedicate time in class to specifically practice for the performance. However, much of the value of participating in a tournament really stems from the efforts a student puts in on their own time to prepare for the event.
We recommend students practice at home to prepare for the tournament and give as much value as possible to the earning of the award.
If you cannot participate, or are opting out of the event, the performance practice in class is still valuable as we are still practicing normal parts of our curriculum for the event.
To see example videos of what students can choose to perform at their class level, please see the videos below.
